Wrongs done to Muslims and wrongs done by Muslims in India since Independence

If Muslims learn to live using their good sense and stop following Maulvis or their wrongly interpreted religion then they will have no problem in India or anywhere in the World. Every Muslim boy and girl like other boys and girls need to get educated, have a job, have a happy married life under monogamy and planned family. In the early post-Partition days after assassination of Gandhi, the communal elements remained subdued and Jan Sangh and Hindu Mahasabha were marginalized parties though Muslim League used to get some seats in Kerala.

The Muslims lived in their backwardness and poverty and there was no communal divide except sporadic riots engineered by putting beef in temples or pork in mosques and on passing of religious processions. Jan Sangh used to raise demands to tease and harass Muslims on issues like uniform civil code, A.M.U., Urdu and special status of Kashmir and ban on cow slaughter.

It is in the history that Muslim invaders and some rulers demolished temples and forcible converted people to Islam and so same fate Muslims feared for themselves under Hindu dominance after British left and this fear was the reason for demand of Pakistan and migration to Pakistan. The same history provides reason to Hindu communalism.

Muslims used to consider Nehru and his Congress as their saviour and used to fear what will happen after him. Nehru invited one American journalist to visit India. He wrote a book ‘Crisis of India’ where he wrote that Nehru was knowing that minorities has such fear but he did nothing to allay that fear and to reassure minorities and in consequence Nehru banned that book.

 I remenber in about 1958 one of our friend broke the news “Nahru has died” there was death’s silence in his house then he laughed that he was doing joke then he was beaten by his elder sisters.  Then nothing happened when Nehru really died in about 1964. In our childhood we faced taunts of being ‘Pakistani’ or were called ‘katuwa’ because of being circumcised but gradually all these things subsided and won friendship and love.

Then some serious riots occured as in Aligarh, Bhopal , Surat and in Meerut etc and there used to be partisan attitude of police and administration. But Congress governments took no pains to investigate and punish those who engineered riots or played partisan role and made no policy or strategy to control riots.

On issues of family planning and emergency excesses, Muslims deserted Ciongress and voted to Janata Party and Jan Sangh also merged itself into Janata Party thus it was an end of communal politics in India. But thius was short lived and constituent parties disintergrated, Indira Gandhi came back and Jan Sangh re-emerged as Bhartiya Janta Party.

In the meantime many Muslim families became better because of jobs in Middle East and perhaps Saudi money was funded to Maulvis and communal leaders. The Muslims increased their religious activities – mosques were raised, loud speakers installed and batches of young men with beard and caps started visiting remote areas for tableegh spread of correct religion and this way they spread campoign against idol worship and also against Moharram and tazias and thus harmed amity being practiced for generations between Hindus and Muslims and between Sunnis and Shias. This wahhabism exported bySaudi Arabia harmed more than the Sangh parivar communal propaganda.

The cutting away of East Pakistan and creation of Bangladesh gave Pakistan reason to increase its propaganda and activities in Kashmir and expulsion of Maneka Gandhi and her joining B.J.P. may have little role.

In Shah Bano case, the Supreme Court allowed maintenance to one individual divorced woman. Maulvis and communal leaders opposed it with tooth and nail and brought Muslim masses on the street. Their anti-women stance was hidden under protection of Sharia and the stand that judiciary has no asuthority to interpret Sharia. Rajeev Gandhi government made a wrong compromise with retrogressive elements and left progressive elements in the lurch. That was the proper time to impose uniform civil code exercising full power of judiciary and government.

Then he got opened locks of disputed Babri Masjid and said it is reply to Muslims of Shah Bana case. Babri Masjid became disputed when in 50’s when a communal minded District Magistrate surreptiously put idols in Masjid and it was possible for Nehru to solve the problem right then and there.

Rajeev Gandhi got shila nyas of Ram Mandir done then it was hijacked by B.J.P. and thus B.J.P. could get support of Hindu majority in the name of Ram temple.    Rajeev Gandhi was assassinated and V.P. Singh became P.M. He played caste politics and implemented Mandal Commission report that increased reservations in jobs and many Sawarns supported B.J.P. in the hope of undoing it through B.J.P. in power.

The Muslims had increased their religious activities and used to block roads and traffic during Friday prayers. All this irritated others and so Shiv Sena engineered attacks and expelled many persons of U.P. and Bihar from Mumbai.

Then riots occured during Advani’s rath yatra and finally Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. Then again Shiv Sena engineered riots and attacks on Muslims under police patronage in Mumbai.

Then some Muslims engineered Mumbai serial blasts that stopped attacks on Muslims by Shiv Sena. Congress played partisan role – Justice Sri Krishna report was not implemented and instead Bal Thackrey was given State honour on his death and Memon family is serving life term and Yakub Menon was given death sentence.

Then in 2002, burning of 58 karsewaks occured in a fire in Sabarmati express train at Godhra by some Muslims. The Gujarat C.M. took the meeting of police and administration and asked them let fury of Hindus its course and in resulting riots  thousands of Muslims were killed and raped.

Since then occured many terrorist attacks apparently by Muslims and one was attack on Parliament and for that Afzal Guru got death sentence but in 2006 Hemant Karkarey and his team exposed  some Hindus involved in terrorism. Then occured 26/11 attack on Mumbai and during it Hamant Karkarey and his two fellow officers were ambushed and killed probably ordered by some one high in position to reach to that spot. Ajmal Kasab a terrorist from Pakistan was caught alive and given death sentence. The attack on Parliament and 26/11 Mumbai attack may be the conspiracy of Hinduttava elements and such elements in security agencies and it is said Muslim terrorists may be hired by any political organization of any country to do terrorist job anywhere in the World.

It was  possible forNehru, Nehru family and Congress to solve all thorny issues that divide Hindus and Muslims and it was possible to analyze and control riots and punish those who mastermind riots and those who play partisan role. The Samajwadi party’s and B.S.P. party’s leadership are in no way better and there is presently  no political will to solve the thorny issues and to prevent and control riots and to punish those who are responsible are play partisan role. Thus Muslims must not expect anything from these parties and must distance themselves from communal leaders like Bukhari and Owaisi whose time to time inflammatory statements harm Muslims and help Hindu communal elements. This must be an eye opener- it is said in a dinner party hosted by Sahara, Pravin Togadia rushed to embrace  entering Bukhari. Thus these leaders issue inflammatory statements time to time to divide the masses on communal lines to prevent masses coming together against Capitalist class or to prevent OBCs unity that may change power equatiion.

But common men and educated persons want peace and amity and many like Sanjeev Bhatt, Teesta Seetalwad and late Hemant Karkarey were above communal divide.

There has been partisan role of police, administration, security agencies and judiciary but future is not bleak for young Muslim generation. The present President and Supreme Court broke all records of mercy by rejecting mercy appeals and within a year got hanged Ajmal Kasab, Afzal Guru and Yakub Menon while sparing others. Hopefully younger generations reaching highest office and bench will be just and humane and remove all blots and make India truly a great democratic pluralistic country.

1.     Muslims excesses of religiosity causing disruption of traffic and use of loud speakers are wrong.

2.     Muslims coming to street on Shah Bano case was wrong.

3.     Mumbai serial blasts were wrong whoever be responsible.

4.     Godhra incident was wrong whoever be responsible.

5.     Terrorist attacks are wrong whoever be responsible.

6.     The inflammatory statements by Bukhari and Owaisi were more harmful than statements of relatively a few Togadia and Ashok Singhal.

7.     The silence of Muslims is not enough as under Wahhabism large number of Muslims believe that there should be only Islam and so true secularism – freedom to observe any religion or faith must be entertained in India and in Muslim countries. The atrocities upon Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh hustifies Hindu communalism. It is great merit that woman doctor from Bangladesh Tasleema Nasreen could feel the plight of Hindu families and wrote her novel Lajja that must be in curriculum of all universities of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Advice to young Muslim boys and girls : The Muslims need to shun orthodoxy, fanaticism, extremism, obedience of maulvis and communal leaders. The Muslims must get educated and better their socio-economic status and must remain monogamous and have planned family and walk shoulder to shoulder with fellow countrymen in making a better India.

The main problem of India is crime and corruption and Muslims must support any political party that fights crime and corruption and stops communalization of police, administration, judiciary and security agenncies.
